How much agriculture industry big in INDIA?

Agriculture is an important industry in India, contributing around 17% of the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and employing over 50% of the workforce. India is one of the world’s largest producers of agricultural products such as rice, wheat, cotton, sugarcane, tea, and spices.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, the Gross Value Added (GVA) of agriculture and associate sectors in India was INR 19.48 lakh crore (US$ 260 billion) in 2020-21. The export of agricultural products from India was valued at US$ 41.25 billion in 2019-20. Some of the major agricultural products exported by India include basmati rice, wheat, spices, tea, and cotton.

The Indian government has introduced various initiatives and programs to promote the growth and development of the agricultural sector, including increasing investments in irrigation infrastructure, promoting organic farming, providing credit facilities to farmers, and implementing technology-driven agricultural practices.

So, the Indian agriculture business is an important contributor to the country’s economy and provides livelihood opportunities to millions of people. But, the sector also faces various challenges such as climate change, soil degradation, water scarcity, and low productivity, which require continuous efforts to ensure its sustainable growth and development.
